S.M. GORETTI WEEKDAY CHAPEL
The addition of a weekday chapel at the side of the nave of St. Maria Goretti Church entails a real extension of the internal space of the liturgical hall. Although the chapel is an autonomous and architecturally distinct organism from the original ecclesiastical space, it stands in spatial and visual continuity with it. The chapel linearly flanks the existing nave, which is entirely visible through the continuous stained glass windows and consequently perceivable as an added aisle. On the exterior side, a long artistic stained-glass window develops a narrative path in its entirety:the subject expresses the depiction in a spiritual key of an episode from the gospels: “Mane Nobiscum”-“Stay with us, Lord,” the heartfelt appeal that the two disciples of Emmaus make to the mysterious traveler to stay and dine at home with them.
