PARKWAY HOUSE IN CHELMSFORD

About This Project

One storey loft extension above a transformed office building, implied a general rethinking of the facades. Existing brick envelope will be covered with a thick insulating coating, in order to improve energy performance, and at the same time it will redefine the exterior aspect. Windows acquire an increased depth due to addedd  thinkness that will be filled by boxes containing plants: green insertions enliven the openings and reduce the sense of repetition on facade.

Transformation seems to be developped by horizontal parts, with a ground floor maintaining dark bricks facing the surrounding context. First and second floors are featured by clear walls and green plants, the extension is set back to realize a linear terrace, with dark cladding making contrast with the floors below.
