NEW AUDITORIUM IN ACILIA

The establishment of a cultural center in a flat urban area, with an ordinary appearance and lacking in architectural values, is an opportunity to define a building intended as an urban attraction pole, with a strong characterization with the intention of giving new life to the surrounding fabric. The new volume presents itself as a compact, centripetal organism that, instead of opening the gaze to the monotonous fabric of the suburbs, centralizes interest on itself. The relationship with the city and the park is resolved by a precise dichotomy between opaque and transparent surfaces: the volumes that enclose the auditorium and the spaces that require to be isolated from the outside are closed and entirely clad in stone, while the reception spaces are identified by the transparent volume of the entrance staircase and the Foyer open to the inner garden. The staircase, evokes in a contemporary key the tradition of scenic urban staircases, particularly present in Roman Baroque, and constitutes a covered space to be used for cultural events or as a gathering place for the neighborhood.
