COLUMN

Column is an innovative retractable shade system, in which the retractable umbrella is enclosed by a rigid casing that can protect it from the weather while hiding it from view when unused. The relationship that is generated between container and content defines its entire aesthetic. The design is inspired by the idea of the ‘column,’ the iconic character of which is transposed into a synthetic key. Perceivable as a small urban monument, the totemic appearance contributes to making it a communicative landmark that is easy to personalize. The reference to the architectural character makes it a design element of the furniture, allows to think of its free arrangement by punctual elements, or by linear sequences to evoke the visual sense of a colonnade, or to recreate precise warps from the ‘regular layout.
