SERLACHIUS MUSEUM

The Serlachius Gosta Museum represents a cultural institution that has the privilege of fitting into a valuable natural environment, dominated by the presence of the lake and the island that faces the museum. The extension of the museum spaces is intended to strengthen the sense of belonging to the culture and history of the places. For this reason, the themes that inspired the project are drawn from the literary tradition of Elias Lönnrot’s Kalevala, which is rich in mythological references to Scandinavian culture. The critical reading of the context led to the definition of four key points: the parterre i.e., the axis that defines the orientation of the building, the pier as an extension to the island in front, the metaphysical square, and finally the egg. A transposition from literary to architectural form to shape the heart of the museum.
