ISLAMIC REVOLUTION MUSEUM IN TEHERAN

About This Project

Disposed on a large empty area at the south of Teheran, the intervention is a massive territorial trasformation that  establish a new cultural district related to the Ayatollah Khomeini’s Tomb, not far away from the site and clearly visible on the north side.

Islamic Revolution and Holy Defence Museum is the monumental core of the project. The architecture of the museum is a solid compact volume, a tapered geometry that enlarges from the squared base raising towards the sky. At ground floor level, a perimetral glazing allows to perceive the museum inner space and the water court in the middle, while the upper floors are entirely shielded by the continuous façade made by stone slates. The museum appears like a large case that contains and protect the memories of the recent Iranian history in order to transmit the sense of these events to the future generations. The main activities related to the museum entity are located in a long, multi-purpose building that represents the functional spine of the whole site. The continuous façade runs along the avenue and the water channel that marks the axis of the site towards a round artificial lake: water is a living element of the project, that remembers the changing process instilled by the Revolution.
